Microfiber

  • What is microfiber?
Microfiber is a very thin plastic fiber, much thinner than cotton, silk, and human hair.  Although very thin, the fiber thinner than a human hair. A regular cotton fiber is round, which makes it less effective at picking up dirt than microfiber which has tiny filaments that are able to attract, pick up and hold tiny dirt particles, down to bacteria levels. According to independent laboratory testing, microfiber picks up 99% of dust, dirt and bacteria that the naked eye can’t see. Microfiber cloths also have very high water absorption and release capabilities making them the ideal for window and floor cleaning. Microfiber is tougher than natural fiber, resisting wear and abrasion well. It can also be washed many more times than ordinary fabrics.
  • Are all microfiber cloths the same?
Many microfiber cloths can be used interchangeably, but there are different types of weaves that are knitted or weaved for specific applications. For example, there are microfiber cloths made specifically for glass cleaning because they don’t leave any lint, scratches, or streaks behind. More surface weight is used in microfiber cloths made for heavy duty jobs. It is always best to check the label to ensure you are using the right microfiber cloth for the job.
  • How do I clean microfiber?
Microfiber cloths and pads can be cleaned in a sink or bowl with warm water and a mild detergent such as dish soap. They can also be placed in the washing machine on the warm or hot water setting with a mild detergent. When cleaning in a washing machine, it is recommended to place the cloths in a mesh laundry bag or wash separate from other fabrics. Do not add fabric softener or bleach as it will compromise the fibers and make the cloth less effective. Let the cloths air dry or place in the dryer on the lowest setting. Microfiber can usually be washed up to 500 cycles in the washing machine.
  • What do I do if I washed my microfiber with fabric softener?
If you make the mistake of washing your microfiber with fabric softener, you can still rescue it. Wash it 3-4 times correctly, without fabric softener, and the microfiber should be useable again.
