Decent for light weight cleaning tools

Unger makes some very nice lightweight aluminum poles and cleaning tools. That’s really what this tool holder is meant for. I was originally going to give it a lower rating until I realized that and put it through a mini torture test by inserting a pole over 2,700 times in one of the holders. It didn’t fail before I got bored and tired.
It’s a clever design. There’s a rubber piece that bends as you insert the tool and remove it. It’s easy to get tools in and out and it holds them securely. In all my tests I didn’t have any problems getting the tool in or out.
Unfortunately I was looking for something to use in my garage with some heavier garden tools. If I had known what this was I wouldn’t have selected it for that purpose. First thing I thought of when I took it out of the package was that the mix of the weight of the tools and being in an unconditioned space would eventually cause the rubber to fail. When I read another reviewer having that problem, using it like how I wanted to, I wasn’t surprised.
You can see in the photo I posted that even just inserting and removing the handle 2,700 times the rubber is starting to deteriorate and you can see bits of rubber that have shredded off. It’s still holding up fine and there are no major tears. Just flaking off of the rubber for now. The weight of the tool will also pull down, deforming the rubber and that adds stress to the material but I couldn’t test that.
If you need something for heavier tools this wouldn’t be my first choice.
If you use it for it’s intended purpose, in an indoor space like a broom closet with light weight cleaning tools on aluminum poles (mops, brushes, dusters, squeegees, etc) such as Unger makes, I think it will last a long time and the rubber grips have the benefit of being easy to use without scratching or denting the poles like some older style metal tool holders could. It’s also nice that you can slide the holders from side to side to accommodate wider tools and the tool holder is fairly compact and doesn’t stick out of the wall too much but still leaves enough clearance for a variety of tools.
