Life spane of a fruit fly

I purchased this about a year ago in store. With in the year it started to fall apart. The issue is with the rubber that closes in on the pole to keep it up. It starts to crack long before it should. I am going to assume the cause for this was the lack of climate control in my garage. Maybe the rubber would not have cracked and split in two if it was used in the house. I did not buy it for indoor use. I needed in the garage. In any case it is in the garbage now and replaced with a better model.
